Cycling

The immediate area around Tourouzelle offers endless possibilities for anything from a short ride up to full days mountain-biking or road cycling. Cycle routes will take you through the vineyards of the Minervois and Corbières wine region and for the keen cyclist you can follow in the cycle tracks of the previous year’s Tour de France.

Mountain Biking

In addition to the well-marked ride signposted from the village, there are many other routes available. The Canal du Midi is a short ride away through the vineyards and then you can follow the canal for as long as you wish, with the opportunity for stopping off at the various wine chateaux along the way.

The marked route takes you from the village up to the escarpment, with fine views all around, and then through vineyard tracks to the local villages of Escales and Castlneau D’Aude. As Tourouzelle is surrounded by vineyards there are numerous routes of varying distance available and as well as providing suggested routes we will also be happy to guide you, if required.

The nearby Montagne Noir (Black Mountains) also offers many cycling possibilities. Many of the well marked walking trails (GR & PR) are accessible to mountain bikers and leaflets detailing these routes will be available in each gite.

Road Cycling

The local area comes alive on a Sunday morning with people of all ages donning their lycra and setting off for a long cycle ride. The area around Tourouzelle is excellent cycling country and it is easy to can get off the main roads and travel through the local network of attractive back roads.

Suggested routes include cycling through the Minervois or Corbières wine regions and cycling to the Montagne Noir.

Each year the Tour de France passes nearby and in 2022, Stage 15 (17th July) of “Le Tour” will be passing near to La Maison Des Vignes as they make their way to Carcassonne. Stage 16 (19th July) will see a start in Carcassonne and this is a great chance to see the bikes and riders up close. The 18th July is a rest day so look out for the teams in the local area as they take a short ride!
